Best Dog Teepee (2022) – 5 Tent Beds That Your Pet Will Love

Looking for a dog bed with a little more style? If so, a dog teepee could be the perfect option. Here’s a list of my top 5 teepee beds – along with tips for which to avoid.

The average dog bed might provide a comfortable sleeping surface for your pet – but they can hardly be called stylish.

So, perhaps it’s no surprise that dog teepees are growing in popularity.

Teepee beds (also called tent beds) come in a range of sizes, shapes and colors. They provide a “Native American” style to your home that’s difficult to match with a regular dog bed.

Teepees aren’t just a gimmick either. Many dogs enjoy sleeping in an enclosed space, as it makes them feel safe and secure.

It’s important to have realistic expectations though. Teepee beds are not designed to be a pet’s main sleeping spot. Most only come with a thin cushion and are less durable than a standard bed. They also don’t provide orthopedic support and won’t withstand heavy chewing.

If you just want a stylish bed your living room, however, they are a great choice. There’s also the option of adding a thicker cushion to the bottom if you want to provide extra comfort.

There are a wide range of teepee beds on the market. While there are some excellent options, the worst models are weak, overpriced and difficult to clean. For this reason, here’s a list of my five best dog teepees to help you make an informed choice.

Little Dove Pet Tent Teepee

Our #1 Pick: Little Dove Pet Teepee

Stylish design and durable construction

After reviewing many teepees, my top pick is the Little Dove Pet Teepee. It’s stylish and durable – plus it provides great value for money. You’ll need to buy the version with a cushion if you don’t already have one though.

Why Buy a Teepee Bed?

Before we get to my top picks, who should buy a teepee dog house? And when should they be avoided?

Let’s start with the good stuff. Some of the advantages of this type of bed include:

  • Stylish Design. Unlike many dog beds, teepees are often designed with aesthetics in mind. They are one of the most popular examples of the trend towards “fun” beds.
  • Enclosed Sleeping Space. Many dogs have a natural love of sleeping in enclosed spaces, as it makes them feel safe. This is why dogs often enjoy sleeping in crates, cave beds or teepees.
  • Comfortable. Some teepee dog beds include a cushion. While these don’t provide orthopedic support, many dogs enjoy sleeping on them. Other beds require you to add your own cushion.
  • Variety of Designs. Whether you want a plain, polka dot, striped or patterned teepee, there’s almost certainly one that fits your requirements.

These advantages don’t mean just any teepee house is good enough for your pet though.

Firstly, make sure the bed is the right size for your pet. Many tee pees are only suitable for small dogs or a puppy (under 15lbs). Others can accommodate medium-size breeds (under 30lbs), but don’t expect to find one for large breeds.

I also don’t recommend this type of bed for pets that like to chew. As with most “designer” pet products, teepees aren’t durable enough to withstand heavy chewing – and the cloth walls provide a tempting target. Look for a chew-proof bed instead (such as these).

On a similar theme, boisterous or energetic pups probably need a stronger bed. Teepees are easier to knock over than a regular bed, as they are only held up by poles.

Most teepee beds also don’t provide orthopedic support. If your pet suffers from joint problems, look for an orthopedic foam bed instead.

For the average dog who enjoys an enclosed sleeping space, however, they are a stylish and fun choice.

1. Little Dove Pet Teepee

1. Little Dove Pet TeepeeVIEW PRICE

My top pick for a puppy or dog teepee is made by Little Dove. It’s a stylish bed with a durable exterior and machine-washable canvas – plus it’s available for a great price.

The first thing that stands out about this bed is the luxurious cream color scheme. The rolled back door design is also a nice touch.

One thing I like about the Little Dove is that it’s relatively short and small compared to other models. It still provides plenty of space for a small dog, but doesn’t dominate the room.

A bonus is that it’s quick to assemble and doesn’t require any tools. You can also quickly fold down the bed for storage or travelling – and it’s machine washable so you don’t need to worry about it becoming grubby over time.

Are there any drawbacks to this model though?

The standard version of the Little Dove does not come with a cushion. For this reason, I recommend paying extra for the 24-inch cushion. This won’t provide orthopedic support and isn’t suitable for heavy dogs, but is a comfortable sleeping pad that can be machine washed.

There’s also the option of buying the basic version and adding your own bed, blanket or cushion. This is a cheaper way to create a comfortable bed – although the shape of a teepee means that some standard beds may not fit.

Why We Recommend It:

The Little Dove Pet Teepee is a stylish bed that provides a comfortable sleeping spot for your dog – as long as you buy the extra 24-inch cushion. It’s durable, easy to setup and has a machine washable cover, so it’s a teepee that’s built to last. The only downside is the cost.

Key Features:
  • Maximum Weight: 15lbs
  • Material: Pine Poles & Cotton Canvas
  • Price Range: $$$
  • Stylish design
  • Machine washable canvas
  • Easy to setup or fold down
  • No cushion included with basic version
  • Relatively expensive if you buy the cushion

2. UKadou Pet Teepee Tent

2. UKadou Pet Teepee TentVIEW PRICE

Another excellent teepee is made by UKadou. It’s a simple bed that doesn’t come with a cushion, but is available for a great place and provides plenty of space for a 15lb dog.

The UKadou is made with cotton canvas and five pine rods. Its pentagon design provides more sleeping space than many other teepees, while the easy-to-assemble design makes it quick to setup.

As with most of the best teepee dog beds, this model has a machine-washable canvas. The 100% cotton design also means it’s safe and non-toxic for dogs.

Perhaps most importantly, it has a cute design that looks fantastic. If you’re looking for a white/cream teepee that suits almost any interior decor, it’s an option to consider.

Like the Little Dove, the biggest downside is that it doesn’t come with a cushion or pillow. If you don’t already have a bed that fits, you’ll need to purchase one separately.

Why We Recommend It:

The UKadou is a stylish teepee with a neutral color scheme. It’s durable, made with high-quality components and is suitable for dogs up to 15lbs. The bed also doesn’t require tools to setup.

Key Features:
  • Maximum Weight: 15lbs
  • Material: Pine Poles & Cotton Canvas
  • Price Range: $$
  • No-tool setup
  • Attractive cotton canvas
  • Can be folded down for storage
  • No cushion or pillow

3. Zaihe Portable Pet Tent

3. Zaihe Portable Pet TentVIEW PRICE

If you want something with a bit more character than a white canvas teepee, this bed by Zaihe could be a great alternative. It has a stylish black star-covered design – and it provides great value for money.

Like the other tents on this list, the Zaihe is made with a cotton canvas and pine poles. It also comes with a small blackboard you can write your pet’s name on – which is a cute extra that adds to the bed’s appeal.

One of the advantages of the Zaihe Portable Tent is that it comes with a cushion as standard. So, while it’s more expensive some of the other models, it actually provides great value.

There are two sizes available: small and medium. The small bed is designed for pets up to 15lbs, while the medium can hold dogs of 30lbs or less. I’ve read about a version for 30lbs+ – although this is more difficult to find.

Other features include a flame-retardant design, cotton padding and quick setup. It also comes with a machine washable canvas so it’s easy to maintain.

Why We Recommend It:

The Zaihe Portable Pet Tent features an attractive star exterior, machine washable canvas and durable design. It might seem more expensive than other options, but the inclusion of a cotton cushion means it provides great value.

Key Features:
  • Maximum Weight: 15lbs, 30lbs
  • Material: Pine Poles & Cotton Canvas
  • Price Range: $$$
  • Easy to setup
  • Comfortable cushion
  • Attractive star design
  • Design may not be to everyone’s tastes

4. VIILER Striped Navy Tent

4. VIILER Striped Navy TentVIEW PRICE

If you’re looking for a striped teepee bed for your dog, this model by VIILER is an excellent option. It’s durable, built with high-quality materials and the contemporary design looks fantastic.

One of the differences between this bed is that it has a square design rather than five-sided. This doesn’t make a big difference to the appearance, but may provide more internal space for your pet to sleep.

Aside from this, it comes with all the features you would expect from a teepee bed. The cotton canvas is machine washable, it’s easy to setup and the bed can be folded down into a carry bag for storage.

This version of the VIILER also comes with a plush cushion. While it’s not thick enough for heavy dogs and isn’t as soft as a foam bed, it provides a comfortable surface for a small pet.

Why We Recommend It:

The VIILER is an attractive tent that’s built with high-quality materials. It also comes with a cushion, so it’s one of the best-value tents on the market.

Key Features:
  • Maximum Weight: Not Listed (Small Dogs)
  • Material: Cotton Canvas
  • Price Range: $$
  • Cushion for added comfort
  • Square design provides ample space for a small dog
  • Easy to setup
  • Only suitable for very small dogs

5. Little Dove Indian Tent Teepee

5. Little Dove Indian Tent TeepeeVIEW PRICE

For those who want something extra special for their dog bed – and don’t mind paying more to get it – the Little Dove Indian Tents is certainly an option to consider. With its stunning design and durable construction, this is one of the most unique teepees on the market.

Unlike most dog teepees, which often have a simple cream design, this model is built to mimic traditional native American styling. The soft round mat and blue color scheme make it stand out from the rest.

Aside from its unique design, the Little Dove Indian Tent has a machine washable canvas, durable design and is easy to assemble. No tools are required, which also makes it simple to fold down and carry.

There is some confusion about the size of dog this bed can accommodate. The small 24-inch diameter means that I don’t recommend it for pets weighing much more than 15lbs. For small dogs, however, it provides plenty of sleeping space.

Note: The yarn pom pom balls are not included with the tent. The package only contains the canvas, poles and mat.

Why We Recommend It:

The Little Dove Indian Tent isn’t cheap, but it’s one of the best looking teepees on the market. It’s also durable, easy to wash and quick to setup, making it one of the best dog teepees available at the moment.

Key Features:
  • Maximum Weight: Not Listed
  • Material: Pine Poles & Cotton Canvas
  • Price Range: $$$
  • Stylish and unique design
  • Machine washable canvas
  • Folds down quickly for storage or travel
  • Not as sturdy as other options
  • Expensive

Here are some of the most common questions I get about teepee beds. If you have any others, please use the comments form below and I’ll respond as soon as possible.

Can teepee beds be used outdoors?

This depends on the product – but most teepees are designed for indoor use only. They might be fine for providing some extra shade on a warm and still day, but don’t expect them to be waterproof or remain upright in wind.

There are some outdoor dog teepees on the market though. As a general rule, if the tent isn’t explicitly marked for outdoor use, then it’s only suitable for indoors.

Note: If you’re looking for a camping bed for your pet, check out my reviews here.

Do all dogs like enclosed spaces?

In short, no. Every dog is different and some find enclosed spaces to be uncomfortable or even frightening.

If your pup isn’t sure about his new teepee bed, don’t force him to go inside. Instead, try to make the bed a positive place by using toys, treats and chews (this is the same principle as crate training). Over time, he may learn to enjoy being inside – although some dogs will always prefer a regular bed.

Where can I find these beds for sale?

Teepee dog houses are growing in popularity, so most pet retailers sell them. You can find excellent models for sale at Amazon, Petsmart, Petco, Kmart and many other online stores.

They are also popular on craft sites, such as Etsy. If you’re looking for a custom or unique design, this might be a good place to look.

Dog teepees provide a safe space for your pup to sleep – and they are much more stylish than the average bed. It’s important to choose a durable tent, however, as many teepees are built with low-quality materials and won’t last long.

My top pick is the Little Dove Pet Teepee. It features a stylish cream canvas, along with a durable design and a great price. It doesn’t come with a cushion though, so you’ll need to purchase one separately.
